Head Housekeeper

  • Full Time
  • Competitive Pay + Tips

Love leading a team, setting high standards, and making sure every room feels just right for our guests?

Then why not take the reins of our friendly housekeeping team?

About the role

Our housekeeping team is at the heart of the guest experience, and we’re looking for a Head Housekeeper to lead them and help keep our beautiful Yorkshire Dales hotel looking its very best.

This is a hands-on leadership role, balancing time on the ground with the organisation needed to keep the department running smoothly. Each morning you’ll also oversee our breakfast team before moving on to the housekeeping operation for the day.

Our current Head Housekeeper will be staying on as a supportive part of the team. That makes this a fantastic opportunity for someone new to take the reins, put their own stamp on the role, and work alongside an experienced and friendly team.

What the Role Involves

  • Leading and supporting the housekeeping team day to day
  • Planning rotas and organising daily room allocations
  • Overseeing breakfast service each morning with the front-of-house team
  • Carrying out quality inspections of bedrooms and public areas
  • Keeping presentation and cleanliness standards consistently high
  • Reporting maintenance issues and liaising with the maintenance team
  • Ordering housekeeping supplies and managing stock levels
  • Training, encouraging and motivating the team
  • Rolling up your sleeves and helping wherever needed during busy periods

The Kind of Person We’re Looking For

  • Experienced in hotel housekeeping, ideally in a supervisory or management role
  • Organised and confident planning workloads and rotas
  • A positive, supportive leader who enjoys developing a team
  • Practical, hands-on and happy to get stuck in
  • Friendly, approachable and calm under pressure
  • Passionate about beautifully presented spaces for our guests

What You’ll Receive

  • £31,000–£34,000 salary, depending on experience
  • A generous, tax-efficient tronc, typically £2,500-£3,000 a year based on a 40-hour week
  • Every other weekend off
  • An extra day’s holiday on your birthday
  • A meal provided on every shift
  • A supportive, friendly, and well-established team
  • The opportunity to make the department your own
  • A stunning Yorkshire Dales location and a much-loved independent hotel

If there’s one thing our team really knows, it’s the Yorkshire Dales.

We have spent years offering advice on where our guests should spend their time with us.

If you look at a map and trace a circle from Skipton to Knaresborough, Richmond to Barnard Castle, Sedbergh to Horton in Ribblesdale, we are right in the middle; away from the crowds, but close enough to be connected.

In our latest blog, we have rounded up our favourite Autumnal hiking trails, gentle riverside ambles, and dog-friendly walks.

Explore the Yorkshire Dales after dark 🌠

Our Dark Skies Escape is available on stays of two nights or more during October or November. Enjoy a three-course dinner on one evening, use of our telescope, a practical stargazing guide and a Dark Skies basket filled with treats to enjoy beneath the stars.

Search for the Milky Way, watch for meteors and keep your fingers crossed for a glimpse of the Northern Lights.
An evening (or two!) of whisky, food and fascinating stories.

Next month, on 8th & 9th November we’ll be hosting a tasting experience celebrating the character and craft of exceptional whiskies.

Led by whisky expert, Phil Lindsey, each evening will feature five (or more) carefully selected whiskies, followed by a three-course dinner.

Whether you already know your favourite dram or are taking your first steps into whisky, there’ll be plenty to enjoy!

🐿️ Just look at that cheeky little face! 😍

Autumn is one of the best times to spot red squirrels at Snaizeholme, just a short drive from us. At this time of year, they’re busy foraging and gathering food to see them through the winter months.

If you’re hoping to catch a glimpse of these adorable little creatures, here are a few tips for your visit:

🕰️ Go early or late - red squirrels tend to be most active in the early morning and late afternoon
🌤️ Pick a calm, dry day - they’re more likely to stay tucked away when it’s wet or windy
🥾 Wear sturdy footwear - the circular walk is around 2.5-miles, with some steep, uneven sections
🐶 Consider leaving the dog at home - dogs are welcome on leads, but squirrels are shy, so you may have better luck without your four-legged friend
🚗 Plan your parking - parking at Snaizeholme is very limited and must be booked in advance. Alternatively, you can arrange transport from Hawes on the @the.littlewhitebus_udcpltd It’s worth checking the arrangements before setting off so you can enjoy a stress-free visit.

Of course, as with all wildlife, sightings are never guaranteed. But if you’re lucky enough to spot one, they’re certainly worth the wait!

🧡 Help protect their home - if you enjoy your visit, you might like to support the work of the @woodlandtrust to restore and protect the wider Snaizeholme landscape, helping wildlife thrive for years to come.

✨ An Evening to Remember ✨

A crackling fire, a hot drink, and a little unexpected magic in the skies above Stone House.

These lovely guests, enjoying our Dark Skies Escape package, were treated to a beautiful glimpse of the Northern Lights last night – a rather special addition to their evening under the stars.

Tucked away on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, we’re fortunate to enjoy some wonderfully dark skies, and with the nights drawing in, there’s plenty to look forward to overhead.

🔭 Coming up in October’s night skies:

☄️ 21–22 October | Orionid Meteor Shower
A chance to spot shooting stars created by debris from Halley’s Comet, with up to 15–20 meteors an hour under ideal conditions.

🪐 24 October | The Moon Meets Saturn
Look out for the Moon appearing close to Saturn in the evening sky.

🌕 26 October | Hunter’s Moon
October’s full moon, traditionally associated with the autumn hunting season, illuminating the Dales.

✨ 27–28 October | The Seven Sisters
Watch as the Moon passes in front of stars in the Pleiades cluster, also known as the Seven Sisters, in a beautiful celestial event called a lunar occultation.

Of course, clear skies are never guaranteed, and neither are the Northern Lights, but that’s all part of the magic. Sometimes all you need is a warm fire, a blanket, good company and a reason to look up.

Discover our Dark Skies Escape (link in bio) and make an evening of it. ✨ https://stonehousehotel.co.uk/offers-and-events/
