We recently had the pleasure of welcoming two incredible Stanley Steamers and their owners to stay at the hotel!
These beautifully preserved vehicles were built in 1909 and 1913, making them well over 100 years old - just a few years younger than Stone House herself. And they’re powered by steam, not petrol!
Did you know that Stanley Steamers were among the fastest cars of their era? In 1906, one even set a land speed record of 127mph (205km/h). Instead of a conventional engine, they use a steam boiler, giving them an incredibly smooth and remarkably quiet drive.
Swipe through to watch the video of them leaving - you’ll not only see the clouds of steam, but you’ll hear the unmistakable hiss and gentle chuff of a true steam-powered car. 💨
A real treat for car enthusiasts and our guests alike!

A celebration of the best of the season!
Grouse breast and confit leg, served with bread sauce gel, pickled blackberries, honey-roasted parsnips and a rich grouse sauce.
Created by our Head Chef, Sean, this is a dish full of the flavours we love at this time of the year - earthy, sweet, sharp and rich, with the grouse taking centre stage.
It’s been wonderful to see such a great response to this dish, with it selling out at this evening’s dinner. Thank you to everyone joining us tonight - we hope you enjoy it 😀

A drive through the Yorkshire Dales is hard to beat.
Just minutes from our hotel lies Buttertubs Pass, famously described by Jeremy Clarkson as "England`s only truly spectacular road." With its twisting climbs, dramatic scenery and panoramic views of the Dales, it`s easy to see why it`s a favourite among driving enthusiasts.
After the journey, pull in to Stone House where a warm welcome, good food, and a well-earned drink will be waiting for you.
