Got a question that’s not about bedrooms or the restaurant? You’ll probably find the answer in our General FAQs. Whether it’s check-in times, local must-sees, or the finer details of what we offer, it’s all there. Have a browse – we’ve covered the bits people most often ask (and a few you might not have thought of yet).
Yes we do – and they make a lovely present! Whether you’re treating someone to a night away in the Dales or a long, lazy lunch in our restaurant, our gift vouchers are perfect for birthdays, anniversaries, or just because.
You can purchase them online or pop in and pick one up at reception.
We’re lucky to be surrounded by some of Yorkshire’s most breathtaking sights.
You’ll find Aysgarth Falls, Hardraw Force, and Bolton Castle all within 20 minutes, while the legendary Wensleydale Creamery in Hawes is just around the corner. A little further afield (but well worth the trip), Ribblehead Viaduct, Malham Cove, and Grassington are all under an hour’s drive.
If you're after fresh air and adventure, we have walking and cycling trails right from the doorstep.
Need help planning your day? Just ask – we love sharing our favourite local spots.
Absolutely! Whether it's an anniversary, milestone birthday, or a relaxed countryside gathering - our charming country house makes a wonderful setting.
We offer bespoke packages and have a lovely team of event coordinators who will help plan everything from fizz on arrival to that last slice of cake.
Yes, you’ll find free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel – in your room and all our cosy corners – should you need to stay connected (or upload a snap of your scones).
Yes, we’ve got plenty of free on-site parking for our guests – no tickets, no time limits, just pull up and you’re all set.
You can – we’ve got a dedicated EV double-charging point available on-site. There’s a small fee just to cover the cost of the electricity used, and it’s best to let us know ahead of time if you’ll need it so we can make sure it’s free for you.
Our bike shed is locked and secure – fitted with racks, a pump, and a repair kit for any tweaks. It does get busy during cycling season, so do let us know in advance if you’re bringing your bike and we’ll save you a spot.
The nearest train station is Garsdale, just a short drive away, and the Little White Bus offers a local service through the Dales.
Taxis can be tricky (we are pretty rural), so we strongly recommend booking ahead. Need help with arrangements? The reception team is happy to assist.
It takes a great team to keep Stone House running as it should.
You might have already seen a few familiar faces around the hotel;Kate, our General Manager, keeping everything running smoothly.
And James, our Assistant Manager, always on hand to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.
They can often be found front and centre, welcoming guests and ensuring everyone feels right at home.
If you see them during your stay, do say hello.

Here in the Dales, cheesemaking runs deep, and few do it better than The Wensleydale Creamery in Hawes. Their rich, crumbly cheeses are made using milk from nearby farms, where care for the land and the animals comes first.
It’s full of flavour and doesn’t need much fuss, and at Stone House, we’re proud to bring these ingredients to the table, weaving them into dishes that celebrate our region.
The @wensleydale_creamery Visitor Centre is just down the road from us, and offers a chance to learn how it’s made, taste the cheeses for yourself, and take a little of the Dales home with you.

In memory of Peter Taplin, whose vision helped shape Stone House into the place so many of us know and love today.
In the 1980s, Peter and Jane Taplin made the bold decision to transform a private country house into a hotel – opening its doors to the world and creating something truly unique. More than 40 years on, that same spirit of warmth and genuine Yorkshire hospitality continues to shape what makes Stone House so special.
Alongside Peter’s son, Chris – who had asked if we could create a lasting tribute to his father here at Stone House – Joe and Holly suggested this plaque and wording to be placed on “the bench” – a spot many guests will appreciate for its magnificent views over the Wensleydale Valley.
Chris shared that it was likely this very view that sealed the decision for Peter and Jane to buy Stone House when they visited the property in June 1980 – a sentiment that we, and no doubt many of those who have visited the hotel and sat on this bench, will completely understand.
We hope that this small gesture pays tribute to the enduring impact Peter and Jane have had on Stone House, and that their family can feel how strongly their legacy lives on in its ethos today. This beautiful old house remains a place to be welcomed warmly, to unwind, and to feel at home.
With love from the Hobson family and all at Stone House x

A huge thank you to @muddystilettos for their wonderful review.
They’ve perfectly captured what makes a stay at Stone House so special, from our warm welcome to our comfort and character, in the heart of the Dales.
We’re so grateful for such thoughtful words that reflect the experience we aim to create for all our guests: a relaxed country house stay, surrounded by beautiful scenery, great food, and genuine hospitality.
If you haven’t read it yet, you can take a look at their blog and see our hotel through their eyes.
