Chase Waterfalls in the Yorkshire Dales

Rolling hills, winding rivers and the kind of waterfalls that make you stop mid-step – this is what the Yorkshire Dales does best. And lucky for us, some of the most beautiful spots are right on our doorstep.

Chase Waterfalls in the Yorkshire Dales

Whether you’re after a gentle wander, a proper hike, or just somewhere peaceful to sit with a flask and take it all in, there’s a waterfall walk here with your name on it.

We’ve rounded up a few of our favourites, all within about an hour’s drive from Stone House (most much closer). Maps, tips, packed lunches – we’re happy to sort the lot.

Waterfalls Worth the Walk

  1. Cotter Force – Holme Heads Bridge
    5-minute drive | 🥾 Easy, flat path
A short and sweet stroll to a peaceful, stepped waterfall tucked between trees. Ideal for a gentle leg stretch or a first waterfall for little legs and older dogs.
  2. Hardraw Force – Hawes
5-minute drive | 🥾 Woodland path, entry fee applies
England’s tallest single-drop waterfall, hidden behind the Green Dragon Inn. Think dramatic drops, ravine walks and a good pint to round things off. Turner painted it. Kevin Costner showered in it.
  3. Askrigg Falls (Mill Gill Falls)
    10-minute drive | 🥾 Short woodland walk
Just outside the village of Askrigg, this one’s a bit of a local secret. Woodland, rocks and birdsong – it’s like walking into a Brontë novel.
  4. Aysgarth Falls – Aysgarth
    25-minute drive | 🥾 Family-friendly loop
Three cascades, ancient woodland and a solid little café nearby. Great for a family day out, especially after a bit of rain when the falls really put on a show.
  5. Cauldron Falls – West Burton
    30-minute drive | 🥾 Easy village walk
A peaceful spot in a chocolate-box village. Named for the swirling pool at the base, this one’s great for a gentle meander and a bit of quiet.
  6. Ingleton Waterfalls Trail – Ingleton
35-minute drive | 🥾 Moderate loop, entry fee applies
A proper trail that ticks off several falls in one circular walk. Wild gorges, wooden bridges, and some dramatic drops—this one’s for the waterfall enthusiast.
  7. Linton Falls – Near Grassington
    50-minute drive | 🥾 Easy riverside walk
One for the romantics. Pretty cascades just outside Grassington, with great views all year round (especially with a warm sausage roll in hand).
  8. Janet’s Foss – Malham
    55-minute drive | 🥾 Short woodland trail
A hidden little waterfall tucked into the trees near Malham. Legend says it’s home to a woodland fairy. Whether or not you believe it, it’s a magical spot for a picnic.
