Set within the Yorkshire Dales National Park, our peaceful location offers exceptional opportunities for stargazing and to experience some of Britain’s darkest skies.

Whether you’re discovering the night sky for the first time or simply looking to enjoy a cosy countryside escape, our Dark Skies Escape has been designed to celebrate the beauty of the Dales after dark.

Dark Skies Escape Includes

Discounted accommodation*
Three-course dinner for two on one evening
Use of the telescope, with a written guide to help you discover the night sky
Constellation guide highlighting the stars, planets and constellations to look out for during your stay
A Dark Skies basket, filled with luxurious treats to make your stargazing experience all the more special. Including hot chocolate flasks, sweet treats, and a woollen blanket to keep warm.

As with all outdoor experiences, visibility is weather-dependent. Our Dark Skies Escape has been designed to be enjoyed whatever the forecast, combining delicious dining, cosy evenings and the beauty of the Dales.

Autumn is one of the best times to spot red squirrels at Snaizeholme, just a short drive from us. At this time of year, they’re busy foraging and gathering food to see them through the winter months.

If you’re hoping to catch a glimpse of these adorable little creatures, here are a few tips for your visit:

🕰️ Go early or late - red squirrels tend to be most active in the early morning and late afternoon
🌤️ Pick a calm, dry day - they’re more likely to stay tucked away when it’s wet or windy
🥾 Wear sturdy footwear - the circular walk is around 2.5-miles, with some steep, uneven sections
🐶 Consider leaving the dog at home - dogs are welcome on leads, but squirrels are shy, so you may have better luck without your four-legged friend
🚗 Plan your parking - parking at Snaizeholme is very limited and must be booked in advance. Alternatively, you can arrange transport from Hawes on the @the.littlewhitebus_udcpltd It’s worth checking the arrangements before setting off so you can enjoy a stress-free visit.

Of course, as with all wildlife, sightings are never guaranteed. But if you’re lucky enough to spot one, they’re certainly worth the wait!

A crackling fire, a hot drink, and a little unexpected magic in the skies above Stone House.

These lovely guests, enjoying our Dark Skies Escape package, were treated to a beautiful glimpse of the Northern Lights last night – a rather special addition to their evening under the stars.

Tucked away on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, we’re fortunate to enjoy some wonderfully dark skies, and with the nights drawing in, there’s plenty to look forward to overhead.

🔭 Coming up in October’s night skies:

☄️ 21–22 October | Orionid Meteor Shower
A chance to spot shooting stars created by debris from Halley’s Comet, with up to 15–20 meteors an hour under ideal conditions.

🪐 24 October | The Moon Meets Saturn
Look out for the Moon appearing close to Saturn in the evening sky.

🌕 26 October | Hunter’s Moon
October’s full moon, traditionally associated with the autumn hunting season, illuminating the Dales.

✨ 27–28 October | The Seven Sisters
Watch as the Moon passes in front of stars in the Pleiades cluster, also known as the Seven Sisters, in a beautiful celestial event called a lunar occultation.

Of course, clear skies are never guaranteed, and neither are the Northern Lights, but that’s all part of the magic. Sometimes all you need is a warm fire, a blanket, good company and a reason to look up.
